Bruce Springsteen pays tribute to Tim Russert

Tim Russert, the american television journalist and lawyer has sadly passed away at the age of 58, for 16 years he fronted the NBC's Meet the Press, and was a life time fan and friend of Bruce Springsteen.

Born in Buffalo New York in 1950, he studied at John Carrol University, and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, whilst at College he booked the then young Bruce Springsteen for 2,5oo dollars, which helped fund his education.

During his career he was awareded 48 honoury doctorates, a shed load of awards. Further tributes have been paid by Presedential Candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama.

Bruce Springsteen prior to Thunder Road in Cardiff paid this tribute

I'd like to do this tonight for a long time friend of the E Street Band who passed away suddenly."Tim Russert was an important unreplacable voice in American journalism. I watched him hold our politicians feet to the fire on many Sunday mornings. He was always a strong voice for honesty and accountability in American government .. but beyond that he was a lovely presence, a good father, husband, and good guy. He was a regular at many E Street Band shows and I'm going to miss looking down and seeing that big smiling face in the crowd."We send this out all the way back to the states tonight for his son Luke, his wife Maureen, his dad Big Russ , and all the Russert family."Tim , God Bless You, We will miss you..."

Press

The most amazing thing about the night was that, even at the age of 58, Springsteen’s energy was limitless. And, as his breathtaking three-hour set came to a close, his final shout of “goodnight Wales, we will be back” sent everyone home with a smile on their face.
